I am looking for highly motivated applicants with an strong degree (Master of Science) in statistics, data science, or a similar program to join me in the Causality group at the Research Center for Trustworthy Data Science and Security at TU Dortmund. There are multiple open positions on topics including:

  • causal discovery, OOD generalization/robustness (pointers to some prior work: 1, 2, 3),
  • causal representation learning, self-supervised and multimodal learning (4, 5),
  • information theory and Bayesian deep learning (6, 7, 8, 9).

In addition, there might be some opportunities for interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of causality and biomedical applications in the future.

Details about the position:

All PhD positions are full-time (part-time possible) with payment according to the public service's agreement: TV-L E13. The positions will be filled as soon as possible, with the earliest starting date being the 1st of June.

Formal requirements

The positions will be at the Department of Statistics and requires a Master's degree in statistics, data science or a similar program with a focus on theoretical aspects of statistical learning/machine learning. More information (in German) is provided here.

How to apply:

Please send me an email with your CV, transcripts, motivation letter, at least one reference and a copy of your Master's thesis (if possible) or any other project you enjoyed working on. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions.

Thesis Projects

There are several open projects suitable for a Master's or Bachelor's thesis in topic areas such as causal discovery, Bayesian deep learning, and mutual information estimation. If you are interested in writing your thesis in any of these areas, feel free to contact me. Please attach your transcript of records.
